14-15 game (fifteen game)

Introduction

This page is about the fifteen game, as known as 14-15 puzzle. There are description of the game and elements of its theory both with many well-known and some new facts.

Now this page is still under construction. However, I still concern to extend it.

Practice: Robot Pilot-15

This is my program. You can download the last version in the section Programs of this site. This program contains an original procedure for self-solution. About algorithms that I used you can read in the help of my program.

Links

There are some links to the excellent sites where you can read a lot of interesting things about 14-15 puzzle, sliders and other similar games.

1. Interactive Mathematics Miscellany and Puzzles

Another name of this site is "Cut-the-knot"

This site by Alexander Bogomolny contains a lot of very interesting things about puzzles (not only fifteen). The page I pointed above contains the usual proof of basic theorem that formulated in this way:

For a given puzzle configuration, let N denote the sum of the total number of inversions and the row number of the empty square. Then (N mod 2) is invariant under any legal move. In other words, after a legal move an odd N remains odd whereas an even N remains even.

Please click SLIDER.html or the site of the Mathematical Association of America to see the extension of this theorem. Anyway, please enjoy this professional site. It is really great!

2. Mr Heitmann's Mega Math Resources

Please, visit this site where you can find a lot of excellent links. This site is only about links, no puzzles.

Please write me about interesting sites. I will put the link here.
